This early machine was mounted on a sewing machine stand with a foot pedal. Thus the field became open to respectable girls who wanted to earn a living. A woman kiss-and-run terrorist deeply scandalized the city of Puritans. It used to be a crime in Boston for a man to kiss his wife in public, but now it was a case of man being forcibly kissed, not by their wives but by a ruthless, seductive Amazon. The honor of manhood was threatened by a wild woman.
