Ours is no longer a world amenable to national solutions, but one of economic interdependence. Thus for the first time in American experience, we can neither escape from the world nor dominate it,\u201d Kissinger said. <\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height: normal'><b>7482<\/b><b> First, Second, Third Worlds<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-top:0cm;margin-right:0cm;margin-bottom:0cm; margin-left:18.0pt;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent:-18.0pt;line-height:normal'><i>First World<\/i>=Western Industrial countries (North America, West Europe, Japan) <\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-top:0cm;margin-right:0cm;margin-bottom:0cm; margin-left:18.0pt;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent:-18.0pt;line-height:normal'><i>Second World<\/i>=Socialist Industrial Countries<\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-top:0cm;margin-right:0cm;margin-bottom:0cm; margin-left:18.0pt;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent:-18.0pt;line-height:normal'><i>Third World<\/i>=Latin America, Africa, Asia<\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-top:0cm;margin-right:0cm;margin-bottom:0cm; margin-left:18.0pt;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent:-18.0pt;line-height:normal'>(a)&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;With resources\u2014Arabs, Brazil, Mexico, Singapore, Malaysia<\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-top:0cm;margin-right:0cm;margin-bottom:0cm; margin-left:18.0pt;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent:-18.0pt;line-height:normal'>(b)&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Without resources\u20141 billion or \u00bc of world. <\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height: normal'><b>7483<\/b><b> The Third World<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent: 18.0pt;line-height:normal'>The Third World consisted of about 110 nations with a combined population of 3 billion, producing only 7% of the world\u2019s industrial goods, although it produces 70% of the unprocessed raw products. <\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent: 18.0pt;line-height:normal'>Nine-tenths of the world are in the Second and Third World. <\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height: normal'><b>7484<\/b><b> \u201cNonaligned\u201d Nations<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent: 18.0pt;line-height:normal'>Technically, the nonaligned are nations with no formal military ties with the Western or Communist superpowers. Actually, they include countries with close military and economic links with one side or the other, or whose sympathies rest firmly in Moscow or the Western capitals. For instance: Iraq, Syria, Angola, Mozambique and such Communist-ruled countries as Cuba, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam are tilted heavily toward the Russians or Chinese. In contrast, such countries as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, Indonesia and Argentina lean toward the West. Yugoslavia, India and some others play both ends against the middle. North Korea is rated nonaligned but South Korea is not. <\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent: 18.0pt;line-height:normal'>Ironically, their strength lies in their very weakness and the psychological pressures they exert on the West. <\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent: 18.0pt;line-height:normal'>Working on the conscience and sense of fair play of industrialized countries, they attempt to win military and economic favors by emphasizing their poverty, lack of technical know-how and, in many cases, a long history of subordination under colonial rule. Creation of raw-material stockpiles to serve as buffers and even out price fluctuations. Another idea is to tie prices of primary products to prices of manufactured goods by \u201cindexing.\u201d As costs of manufactured imports rise, so would prices of exported raw materials. <\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height: normal'><b>7485<\/b><b> Trilateral Commission<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent: 18.0pt;line-height:normal'>The Trilateral Commission is an organization of 80 members each from Western Europe, North America and Japan. It was founded in 1973 under the aegis of David Rockefeller, chairman of the Chase Manhattan Bank.
