A Definition<\/b><\/p>\n
The decisive act in which a sinner turns away from sin in genuine repentance and accepts the salvation that Christ offers. The imagery in conversion is that of turning. A person is going along a road and realizes that he or she is on the wrong track. They will never reach the destination if they continue in that direction. So the person \u201cturns,\u201d or \u201cis converted.\u201d He or she ceases to go in the wrong direction and begins going in the right one. Conversion changes the direction of one\u2019s course of life from the wrong way to the right way, the way that God wants.<\/p>\n

Take Up and Read<\/b><\/p>\n
I was weeping in the most bitter contritition of my heart, when I heard the voice of children from a neighboring house chanting, \u201ctake up and read; take up and read.\u201d I could not remember ever having heard the like, so checking the torrent of my tears, I arose, interpreting it to be no other than a command from God to open the book and read the first chapter I should find. Eagerly then I returned to the place where I had laid the volume of the apostle. I seized, opened, and in silence read that section on which my eyes first fell: \u201cNot in revelry and drunkenness, not in licentiousness and lewdness, not is strife and envy; but put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.\u201d No further would I read, nor did I need to.
