A man walked into a little grocery store and asked, \u201cDo you sell salt?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHa!\u201d said Pop, the proprietor. \u201cDo we sell salt? Just look!\u201d Pop showed the customer an entire wall of shelves stocked with nothing but salt: Morton salt, iodized salt, kosher salt, sea salt, rock salt, garlic salt\u2014every kind of salt imaginable.<\/p>\n
\u201cWow!\u201d said the customer.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou think that\u2019s something?\u201d asked Pop. \u201cThat\u2019s nothing! Come look.\u201d And Pop led the customer to a back room filled with shelves and bins and cartons and barrels and boxes of salt. \u201cDo we sell salt!\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnbelievable!\u201d said the customer.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou think that\u2019s something?\u201d said Pop. \u201cI\u2019ll show you salt!\u201d And Pop led the customer down steps into a huge basement, five times as large as the back room. It was filled, floor to ceiling, with every imaginable form of salt\u2014even ten-pound salt licks for cows.<\/p>\n
\u201cIncredible!\u201d said the customer. \u201cYou really do sell salt.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s just the problem!\u201d Pop said. \u201cWe never sell salt. But that salt salesman\u2014hoo-boy, does he sell salt!\u201d<\/p>\n
Salt that stays on the shelf doesn\u2019t do any good at all.<\/p>\n
