\u201cIn an earlier grade, I\u2019d taped Mark\u2019s mouth shut for talking too much in class. Now he was one of my students in junior high math,\u201d wrote Sister Helen Mrosia.<\/p>\n
One Friday, in a break from work, the teacher asked her students to write the nicest thing they could about each other and hand it in. She compiled the results for each student and, on Monday, gave out the lists.<\/p>\n
Several years later, Mark was killed in Vietnam. After the funeral, many classmates gathered with Mark\u2019s parents and Sister Mrosia for lunch. Mark\u2019s father took a wallet out of his pocket. \u201cThey found this on Mark when he was killed,\u201d he said. He carefully removed a folded, refolded, and taped paper\u2014on which the teacher had listed the good things Mark\u2019s classmates had said about him.<\/p>\n
Other students responded. Charlie smiled sheepishly and said, \u201cI keep my list in my desk drawer.\u201d<\/p>\n
Chuck\u2019s wife said, \u201cChuck put his in our wedding album.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI have mine, too, in my diary,\u201d Marilyn said.<\/p>\n
Vicky reached into her pocketbook and brought out her frazzled list.<\/p>\n
