Early on Friday morning, the phone rang. \u201cDavid Noel?\u201d I heard.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is your neighbor, Mrs. Waldron.\u201d<\/p>\n
Not wanting to embarrass myself, I tried to place a Mrs. Waldron somewhere in my neighborhood. She continued, \u201cThere\u2019s a fire in back of your house by the fence, close to the gas tanks.\u201d<\/p>\n
I don\u2019t have a fence, nor are there any gas tanks anywhere near my home. However, I immediately went outside to see if there was indeed a fire. Returning to the phone, I said, \u201cMa\u2019am, I think you have the wrong David Noel.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAren\u2019t you the David Noel that lives on Avery?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cNo, ma\u2019am.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m very sorry,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s quite all right,\u201d I said.<\/p>\n
I hung up the phone with a smile\u2014and one more glance at the backyard. Minutes later I found myself looking in the backyard again. The stakes were too high to let a little embarrassment keep me from making sure.<\/p>\n
The scriptural teachings are clear on hell. No one ought to ignore those teachings without serious investigation into the claims of Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n
