My farmer husband, Larry, isn\u2019t a cook. So when I accepted a lunch invitation with former coworkers, I put food for Larry in the oven and scribbled a note: \u201cDinner in oven.\u201d Returning at 4:00 p.m., I waved at Larry working outside, but he didn\u2019t wave back. Guess he\u2019s had a bad day<\/i>, I thought.<\/p>\n
In the kitchen, the plot thickened. There were no dirty dishes, and the casserole was still in the oven. Only a sandwich that I intended to throw away was missing from the refrigerator.<\/p>\n
When Larry came in, I asked, \u201cWhat did you have for dinner?\u201d<\/p>\n
Silence.<\/p>\n
\u201cDid you get my note?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSure did,\u201d he replied gruffly. \u201cIt said, \u2018Dinner is over!\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n
I now proofread all my notes.<\/p>\n
