Rena, age three, sat with us during the baptismal service last Sunday night, which was a new experience for her. \u201cWhy did Pastor Bob push that guy in the water?\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n
My wife quietly tried to explain, but Rena wasn\u2019t satisfied. Later that night we tried again. We talked about sin and how, when people decide to live for Jesus and \u201cdo good,\u201d they want everyone to know. We said water symbolizes Jesus\u2019 washing away people\u2019s sin; when they come out \u201cclean,\u201d they will try to be \u201cgood.\u201d<\/p>\n
A moment later, we realized we\u2019d failed again when Rena asked, \u201cWhy didn\u2019t Pastor Bob just spank him?\u201d<\/p>\n
