In the 2007 film The Bucket List<\/i>, two terminally ill men\u2014played by Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman\u2014take a road trip to do the things they always said they would do before they \u201ckicked the bucket.\u201d Before the film\u2019s release, Nicholson was interviewed by Parade<\/i> magazine. Reflecting on his personal life, Nicholson said, \u201cI used to live so freely. The mantra for my generation was \u2018Be your own man!\u2019 I always said, \u2018Hey, you can have whatever rules you want\u2014I\u2019m going to have mine. I\u2019ll accept the guilt. I\u2019ll pay the check. I\u2019ll do the time.\u2019 I chose my own way. That was my philosophical position well into my fifties. As I\u2019ve gotten older, I\u2019ve had to adjust.\u201d<\/p>\n
But reality has a way of getting the attention of even Jack Nicholson. Later in the interview, he adds, \u201cWe all want to go on forever, don\u2019t we? We fear the unknown. Everybody goes to that wall, yet nobody knows what\u2019s on the other side. That\u2019s why we fear death.\u201d<\/p>\n
