When John Kavanaugh, a renowned ethicist, went to work at \u201cthe house of the dying\u201d in Calcutta, he was seeking a clear answer about how to spend the rest of his life. On the first morning there he met Mother Teresa. She asked, \u201cAnd what can I do for you?\u201d<\/p>\n
Kavanaugh asked her to pray for him. \u201cWhat do you want me to pray for?\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n
He said, \u201cPray that I have clarity.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said firmly, \u201cI will not do that.\u201d<\/p>\n
When he asked her why, she said, \u201cClarity is the last thing you are clinging to and must let go of.\u201d<\/p>\n
When Kavanaugh commented that she seemed to have the clarity he longed for, she laughed and said, \u201cI have never had clarity; what I have always had is trust. So I will pray that you trust God.\u201d<\/p>\n
