Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is the youngest signal-caller ever to win a Super Bowl. In July 2005, a reporter asked Roethlisberger why he didn\u2019t wear a helmet when riding his motorcycle.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not the law,\u201d Roethlisberger said. \u201cIf it were the law, I\u2019d definitely have one on every time I rode. But it\u2019s not the law and I know I don\u2019t have to. You\u2019re just freer when you\u2019re out there with no helmet on.\u201d<\/p>\n
Less than a year later, Roethlisberger was involved in a serious motorcycle accident.<\/p>\n
Surgeons spent over seven hours repairing his broken jaw, fractured skull, and several facial injuries.<\/p>\n
Roethlisberger later apologized to the fans, his family, and his team for risking his health. \u201cIn the past few days, I\u2019ve gained a new perspective on life,\u201d he said. \u201cBy the grace of God, I\u2019m fortunate to be alive.\u201d He said if he ever rides a motorcycle again, he\u2019ll wear a helmet.<\/p>\n
