Omar the tentmaker was one who sang with pathos and humor of mutation and mortality, the twin diseases that afflict mankind. \u201cDon\u2019t slap that clay around so roughly,\u201d he exhorts the potter, \u201cthat may be your grandfather\u2019s dust you make so free with.\u201d&nbsp;\u201cWhen you lift the cup to drink red wine,\u201d he reminds the reveler, \u201cyou may be kissing the lips of some beauty dead long ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent: 18.0pt;line-height:normal'>This note of sweet sorrow expressed with gentle humor gives a radiant beauty to his quatrains but, however beautiful, the whole long poem is sick, sick unto death.
