30. TO DO, PRACTISE
The word signifies ‘to make’ or ‘to do,’ but indicates design and acquired habit of life: it is often applied to ‘practising’ what is good. Mat 12:12; Mat 19:16; Joh 8:29; but also to the reverse, Mat 13:41; Rom 3:8. The word is applied to what we do naturally, easily, and is frequently connected with what is evil, though not absolutely restricted to this, see Rom 9:11. Still the tendency is (where the words are used morally) to employ . in a good, and . in an evil sense. In several passages both words occur. “Every one that doeth (.) evil hateth the light . . . . but he that practises (.) the truth cometh to the light.” Joh 3:20-21. These “shall come forth, they that have practised (.) good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done (.) evil unto the resurrection of judgement,” Joh 5:29.
