(, perh. for , Jachin [a contracted form of Jehoiachim], which the Sept., in 1Ch 24:17, Graecizes [so the Vactican, but other texts have ]), the son of Sadoc and father of Eleazar, among the paternal ancestors of Christ (Mat 1:14), B.C. long ante 40, and post 410.

In Jesus’ genealogy (Mat 1:14) Achim or Jachin (i.e. “he will establish”), contracted from Jehoiachin. The name may express the parents’ faith that God would in His own time establish Messiah’s throne, as Isa 9:7 foretold.
