Baal-hazor
(Hebrews Baa’l Chatsor’, , having a village: Sept. v. r. ), the place where Absalom kept his flocks; and held the sheep-shearing feast at which Amnon was assassinated (2Sa 13:23). The Targum makes it the plain of Hazor, and so Ewald (Isr. Gesch. 2, 639); but this locality would be far fron that of the above passage, where it is said to have been beside () Ephraim; not in the tribe of that name, but near the city called Ephraim, which was in the tribe of Benjamin, and is mentioned in 2Ch 13:19; Joh 11:54. This Ephraim is placed by Eusebius eight miles from Jerusalem on the road to Jericho, and is supposed by Reland to have been between Bethel and Jericho (Palestine, 1, 377). Perhaps Baal-hazor is the same with HAZOR SEE HAZOR (q.v.) in the tribe of Benjamin (Neh 11:33), now Asur in the vicinity indicated (see Schwarz, Palest. p. 133).

Baal-Hazor
ba-al-hazor ( , baal hacor; , Bailasor, , Bel-la-sor): A place on the property of Absalom where his sheep-shearers were gathered, beside Ephraim (2Sa 13:23). The sheep-shearing was evidently the occasion of a festival which was attended by Absalom’s brethren. Here he compassed the death of Amnon in revenge for the outrage upon his sister. The place may be identified with Tell Asur, a mountain which rises 3, 318 ft. above the sea, 4 miles Northeast of Bethel.
