Beardsley, Aubrey Vincent

(1872 -1898 ) Illustrator, born Brighton, England ; died Mentone, France . Self-taught except for a brief course at Westminster Art School, he achieved fame by his illustrations for the Morte d’ Arthur, The Yellow Book, and The Savoy. Many critics rank him with Durer as a draughtsman. His last work was the illustration of an edition of Ben Jonson’s Volpone. He became a Catholic in 1895 .
