Bonaventure Giffard
Bishop , born Wolverhampton, England , 1642; died Hammersmith, England , 1734. He was appointed court preacher by James II of England , and in 1688 was consecrated bishop in charge of the newly erected Midland vicariate Apostolic. A few months later during the Revolution he was thrown into prison, but was released in 1690 , and continued his perilous missionary work till his death .
