Ancient diocese , England , including most of the counties of Cumberland and Westmoreland; founded with AEthelwulf (1133 -1155 ) as first bishop . It was the only English see with an Augustinian cathedral chapter . The last Catholic bishop , Owen Oglethorpe (died 1559 ), was the only one who could be persuaded to crown Elizabeth.
