An emphatic expression of joy, They clapped their hands (nakhah), and said, Long live (the King James Version God save) the king (2Ki 11:12); Oh clap your hands (taka), all ye peoples (Psa 47:1); or exultation (saphak, Lam 2:15; maha), Eze 25:6; taka, Nah 3:19); or repudiation (saphak, Job 27:23; Job 34:37).

Figurative: To denote Nature’s sympathy with God’s people. Let the floods clap (maha’) their hands (Psa 98:8); All the trees of the field shall clap their hands (Isa 55:12; compare Jdg 5:20).

Psa 98:8 (b) This is an expression used to describe the joy that shall fill the whole earth when CHRIST rules and reigns. (See also Isa 55:12).

Lam 2:15 (b) It is used to express utter disgust, contempt and hatred. (See also Eze 25:6).
