Croft George, D.D.
an English divine, was born at Skipton, Yorkshire, in 1747; admitted at University College, Oxford, in 1762, was elected scholar in 1768, and fellow in 1779. In the same year he became vicar of Arncliffe, Yorkshire; in 1791, lecturer of St. Martin’s, Birmingham, and finally rector of Thwing in 1802. He died in 1809. He wrote Thoughts concerning the Methodists and the Established Clergy (London, 1795, 8vo): Eight Sermons preached in 1786 (Oxf. 1786, 8vo): Sermons preached before the University of Oxford (Birming. 1811, 2 vols. 8vo).
