Flame, Flaming
Flame, Flaming
akin to Lat. fulgeo, “to shine,” is used apart from pur, “fire,” in Luk 16:24; with pur, it signifies “a fiery flame,” lit., “a flame of fire,” Act 7:30; 2Th 1:8, where the fire is to be understood as the instrument of Divine judgment; Heb 1:7, where the meaning probably is that God makes His angels as active and powerful as a “flame” of fire; in Rev 1:14; Rev 2:18; Rev 19:12, of the eyes of the Lord Jesus as emblematic of penetrating judgment, searching out evil.
