French physiologist, the founder of experimental brain science and a pioneer in anesthesia. Born 15 April 1794 at Maureilhan, Hrault, France ; died 6 December 1867. Made notable contributions to the physiological theory of sensations. Did research on the peculiar functions of specific parts of the brain.
