Franco, Boniface
Antipope (974 and 984 -985 ), born Rome, Italy ; died there. A cardinal -deacon , he was appointed by Crescentius, in opposition to Benedict VI , whom he murdered. He was banished by Otto, 974 , but returned, 983 , after the emperor’s death , imprisoned John XIV, and reinstated himself. He died , probably by violence, after a reign of less than two years.
