Geramb, Ferdinand de
Abbot and Procurator-General of La Trappe , born Lyons, France , 14 January 1772 ; died Rome, Italy , 15 March 1848 . He fought against the French Revolutionary forces, rising to the rank of lieutenant-general, and was imprisoned at Vincennes by Napoleon for six years. After the Restoration he joined the Trappists , and although not a priest was made a titular abbot , with ring and pectoral cross, an unusual privilege.
