The archbishop was formerly Patriarch of the East Indies, Primate of the East, and holds the titles of Bishop of Damo, and Archbishop of Cranganore. Elevated to an episcopal see on 31 January 1533. Raised to an archdiocese on 4 February 1558, and then to a patriarchate on 1 September 1886 . On 1 May 1928 it was united with the diocese of Damo to form the archdiocese of Goa and Damo. While remaining an archdiocese , it’s metropolitan status was removed on 1 January 1976, but restored on 25 November 2006. Suffragen dioceses include
