* Note: In 2Co 9:7, the phase ek lupes, lit., “out of sorrow” (ek, “out of,” or “from,” lupe, “sorrow, grief”), is translated “grudgingly” (RV marg., “of sorrow”); the “grudging” regret is set in contrast to cheerfulness enjoined in giving, as is the reluctance expressed in “of necessity.”
