Illicit process of the major

Illicit process of the major

Illicit process of the major

In the categorical syllogism (Logic, formal, 5), the conclusion cannot be a proposition E or O unless the major term appears in its premiss as distributed — i.e., as subject of a proposition A or E, or the predicate of a proposition E or O. Violation of this rule is the fallacy of illicit process of the major. — A.C.
