Kinesis

Kinesis

Kinesis

(Gr. kinesis) Motion; change. In Aristotle’s philosophy three kinds of kinesis are distinguished

quantitative change, i.e. increase and diminution;

change of quality; and

change of place, or locomotion.

Among the forms of kinesis Aristotle also sometimes reckons the two forms of substantial change, viz. generation, or coming-to-be, and destruction, or passing-away. See Aristotelianism. — G.R.M.
