“to be laid up, to lie,” is used of reclining at table, and translated “leaning (on Jesus’ bosom)” in the AV of Joh 13:23, RV, “reclining” (for Joh 13:25 see No. 2). In Joh 13:28, it is translated “at the table,” lit., “of (those) reclining.” See GUEST, RECLINE, SIT, TABLE (at the).
lit., “to fall back” (ana, “back,” pipto, “to fall”), is used of reclining at a repast and translated “leaning back, (as he was, on Jesus’ breast)” in Joh 13:25, RV (the AV follows the mss. which have epipipto, and renders it “lying”); in Joh 21:20, “leaned back,” the Apostle’s reminder of the same event in his experience. Son 8:5 (c) This may be taken as a picture of the Church. GOD’s people are just now traveling through this wilderness world on the way Home to glory. Along the way we are trusting on, believing in, and loving the Lord JESUS who is our Bridegroom.
Pro 3:5 (b) The Lord uses this figure in order to warn us against trusting in our own mental processes, rather than in the revealed Word and will of GOD.
Isa 36:6 (b) This is symbolical of Israel trusting in the help of the armies of Egypt as a man leans on a crutch or a staff to help him along a difficult way. Egypt would fail Israel, and prove to be a hindrance instead of a help. (See also Eze 29:7).
Mic 3:11 (b) These hypocrites were professing to trust in the Lord while in their actions they were denying Him. They were hypocrites. They really did not expect nor desire to walk with GOD.

Job 16:8 (a) This figure is used to illustrate the faint heart and the drooping spirit of this poor, weary man in his misery. When trouble overtakes GOD’s people they are no longer “fat and flourishing” in their attitude, nor their actions.
Psa 106:15 (a) GOD definitely uses this figure to indicate the terrible spiritual condition of Israel after they turned away from trusting in the Lord, and appointed a king for themselves in whom they would put their trust. (See also Isa 10:16; Isa 24:16).
