Limits of Sensation
Limits of Sensation
The two limiting sensations in the sensory continuum of any given sense(a) the lower limit is the just noticeable sensation which if the stimulus producing it were diminished, would vanish altogether or — in the view of some psychologists — would pass into the unconscious. See Threshold of Consciousness, (b) The upper limit is the maximum sensation such that if the producing stimulus were increased the resultant sensation would again vanish. — L.W.
