(Heb. Magpiash’, , perhaps for , moth-killer; Sept. v. r. , Vulg. Megphias), one of the chief Israelites who joined. in the sacred covenant instituted on the return from Babylon (Neh 10:20). B.C. cir. 410. Some suppose the name, however, to be the same as MAGBISH SEE MAGBISH (q.v.) of Ezr 2:30.
