Miletum, Miletus

Miletum, Miletus

Miletum, Miletus

[Mile’tum] [Mile’tus]

An ancient city in Caria in Asia Minor, on or near the sea coast. It was here that Paul called for the elders of Ephesus (some thirty miles distant), and had his parting interview with them. Act 20:15; Act 20:17; 2Ti 4:20. By comparing the last named passage with Act 20:4; Act 21:29 it appears that Paul visited Miletus between his first and second imprisonments, but he may not have again seen the elders of Ephesus. Miletus was at one time a place of commerce, its ships going long voyages; but there are now but few relies of the place, about ten miles from the sea shore. It is now called Palattia , 37 30′ N, 27 20′ E
