NOEMA

NOEMA is a Gnome transferred to person, time, or place; i.e. a sentiment which appertains to life and human actions, etc., applied to the particular case for the time being; as,-1Co 6:12, , This is a NOEMA, which has the force of a GNOME. BENGEL has used this term frequently throughout the Gnomon in a wider sense for any sentiment or enunciation, which is contained in the words of Scripture;-for instance, Rom 1:1, T. II. pp. 1, 2, the correspondence of the Noemata (thoughts) and modes of expression.-Ch. 3:2, T. II. p. 20, ideas (noemata) extremely suggestive.-Ch. 12:1, T. II. pp. 79, 80.-Comp. the Title GNOME.
