Paltite
Paltite
(Heb. Palti’, , same as Palti [q.v.]; Sept. ), the Gentile name of Helez, one of David’s captains (2Sa 23:26); the same name, probably, as PELONITE SEE PELONITE (q.v.) in the parallel passage ( Chronicles 11:27), and such seems to have been the reading followed by the Alex. MS. in 2 Samuel. The Peshito-Syriac, however, supports the Hebrew, Cholots of Pelat. But in 1Ch 27:10, Helez the Pelonite, of the tribe of Ephraim is again mentioned as captain of 24,000 men of David’s army for the seventh month, and the balance of evidence therefore inclines to Pelonite as the true reading. The variation arose from a confusion between the letters and . In the Syriac of 1 Chronicles both readings are combined, and Helez is described as of Palton.

Paltite
paltt (, palt (as Palti); The Septuagint has: Codex Vaticanus , Kelothei; Codex Alexandrinus , Phellone): The description occurs but once in this form and is then applied to Helez, one of David’s 30 valiant men (2Sa 23:26). Helez’ name, however, occurs in 1Ch 11:27 and 1Ch 27:10 as the Pelonite. Doubtless there is some confusion of words. The word may be given as a patronymic of Palti, or it may designate a native of the village of Beth-pelet mentioned in Jos 15:27 and Neh 11:26 as being in Lower Judah. Helez, however, is described as of the children of Ephraim in 1Ch 27:10.
