(Heb. only as a collective, and with the art. hap-Puthi’, , patronymic from some unknown primitive; Sept. v. r. ; Vulg. Aphuthei), a designation of the second named of the families of Kirjath- jearim descended from Shobel (1Ch 2:53). There is a Jewish tradition, embodied in the Targum of R. Joseph, that these families of Kirjathjearim were the sons of Moses whom Zipporah bare him, and that from them were descended the disciples of the prophets of Zorah and Eshtaol
