Heb. Putiel’, , afflicted of God; Sept. ), the father of the wife of Eleazar the priest and the mother of Phinehas (Exo 6:25). B.C. cir. 1619. In modern Jewish traditions Putiel is confounded with Jethro the Midianite, who fatted the calves for idolatrous worship (Targum Pseudojon. On Ezod. 6:25; Gemara of Sota by Wagenseil, c. viii. 6).
