Quarrel
(Fr. carre, square) is a technical term employed in architecture to describe a diamond-shaped pane of glass, or a square one placed diagonally. It is also the name of a small piercing in the tracery of a window. A wax taper (q.v.) used in churches is also called quarrel.

QUARREL.The original meaning of this Eng. word (from Lat. quereta) is a complaint. This is its meaning in Col 3:13 AV [Note: Authorized Version.] If any man have a quarrel against any. Then it came to mean any cause of complaint, or any case that had to be stated or defended, as Mar 6:19 Herodias had a quarrel against him: so Lev 26:25, 2Ki 5:7.

kwor-el: Originally (1) a complaint (compare querulous), or (2) a cause of complaint, and so (3) a contention. (1) In the King James Version Mar 6:19 (the Revised Version (British and American) set herself; the colloquial had it in for him is an exact translation) and Col 3:13 (, momphe, complaint; so the Revised Version (British and American)). (2) In 2Ki 5:7 (, ‘anah, be opportune, the Revised Version margin an occasion). (3) In the King James Version Lev 26:25 (loose translation of , nakam, vengeance; so the Revised Version (British and American)).
