red

Is the color of warmth and blood. Vestments of that color are used in Masses of the Holy Ghost, to remind us of the tongues of fire which descended upon the Apostles, and of the fire of charity, which is a gift of the Holy Ghost. It is used also on the feasts of the Holy Cross of Our Lord, and on the festivals of all saints who shed their blood for their faith.

Red

denotes “fire-colored” (pur, “fire”), hence, “fiery red,” Rev 6:4; Rev 12:3, in the latter passage said of the Dragon, indicative of the cruelty of the Devil.

denotes “red” (the ordinary color); the root rudh—, is seen, e.g., in the Latin rufus, Eng., “ruby,” “ruddy,” “rust,” etc. It is applied to the Red Sea, Act 7:36; Heb 11:29. The origin of the name is uncertain; it has been regarded as due, e.g., to the color of the corals which cover the Red Sea bed or line its shores, or to the tinge of the mountains which border it, or to the light of the sky upon its waters.

“to be fiery red” (akin to A, No. 1), is used of the sky, Mat 16:2-3. In the Sept., purrhizo, Lev 13:19, Lev 13:42-43, Lev 13:49; Lev 14:37.

Red

Exo 25:5 (c) This may be taken to remind us of the sacrifice of CHRIST and the shedding of His precious Blood. The rams had to die before the skins could be obtained. These red ram skins covered all the tabernacle. This may be taken to represent the fact that the precious shed Blood of CHRIST JESUS must cover and protect everything connected with the Christian’s life, activity and sacrifice. (See also Exo 35:23).

Num 19:2 (c) We may see in this animal a type of CHRIST JESUS who was made sin for us, and died that we might be presented blameless and guiltless before GOD.

Isa 1:18 (a) This color seems to apply to sins in many parts of the Scriptures. We never see sin compared to the color “black.” Red seems to be the symbol of sin. (See also Lev 13:19).

Isa 63:2 (a) This color represents the terrible wrath and judgment of GOD when our Lord JESUS, the Judge of all the earth, treads down His enemies. The figure indicates that the blood of His enemies will be splashed up upon His garments making them red. This same truth is found in other passages. CHRIST is the One who treads upon the grapes in the wine press, and the grapes represent His enemies.

Zec 1:8 (b) Since the myrtle trees represent those who live a happy life, some think that these horses are a type of CHRIST riding in power because of the red blood, and because of Calvary to protect and preserve His own people. Others think that these horses represent angels sent among the people to bring upon them the wrath of GOD because they were indifferent and unconcerned. Others think that these horses are a type of sin that pervades all the land. (See Zec 6:5; Rev 6:4).

Rev 12:3 (a) This animal is a type of Satan, the man of sin, who is all evil, sinful and wicked. We should notice that this animal is in Heaven. Satan has not yet been cast out of Heaven.
