kussemeth. This is judged to refer to ‘spelt,’ the Triticum spelta, a species of grain resembling wheat. Exo 9:32; Isa 28:25. The same Hebrew word in Eze 4:9 is translated ‘fitches,’ with ‘spelt’ in the margin. The northern rye is the Secale cereale.
