“to scatter abroad,” is rendered “to scatter” in Mat 25:24, Mat 25:26, RV (AV, “strawed”); Mat 26:31; Mar 14:27; Luk 1:51; Joh 11:52; Act 5:37, RV. See DISPERSE, No. 3.
“to scatter abroad” (dia, “throughout,” speiro, “to sow seed”), is used in Act 8:1, Act 8:4; Act 11:19, all of the church in Jerusalem “scattered” through persecution; the word in general is suggestive of the effects of the “scattering” in the sowing of the spiritual seed of the Word of life. See DISPERSE, No. 4.
“to throw, cast, hurl, to be cast down, prostrate,” is used in Mat 9:36 of people who were “scattered” as sheep without a shepherd. See CAST, No. 2, THROW.
“to winnow” (likmos, “a winnowing fan”), is rendered “will scatter … as dust” in Mat 21:44; Luk 20:18, RV (AV, “will grind…to powder”). See GRIND, Note.
