Shemuel
(Heb. Shemuel’, , heard of God, the same as Samuel [q.v.]), the name of three Hebrews.
1. (Sept. .) Son of Ammihud and commissioner from the tribe of Simeon, among those appointed by Moses to divide Palestine (Num 34:20). B.C. 1618.
2. (Sept. .) A more correct Anglicism (1Ch 6:33) of the, name of the prophet Samuel (q.v.).
3. (Sept. .) A descendant of Tola, the son of Issachar, among the chiefs of that tribe in David’s time (1Ch 7:2). B.C. 1014.

SHEMUEL.1. The Simeonite appointed to assist in the dividing of the land (Num 34:20). It is not improbable that the MT [Note: Massoretic Text.] should be corrected to Shelumiel, the form in Num 1:6; Num 2:12; Num 7:36; Num 7:41; Num 10:19. 2. Grandson of lssachar (1Ch 7:2).

(1) The Simeonite appointed to assist in the division of the land (Num 34:20). The Massoretic Text should be emended to , shelum’el, to correspond with the form found in Num 1:6; Num 2:12; Num 7:36, Num 7:41; Num 10:19. Septuagint has uniformly , Salamiel.
(2) Grandson of Issachar (1Ch 7:2) (Codex Vaticanus , Isamouel; Codex Alexandrinus and Lucian, , Samouel).
