TEPHON.One of the towns in Juda fortified by Bacchides (1Ma 9:50). Tephon was probably an old Tappuah; but whether it was Tappuah 1 or 2, or Bethtappuah, is uncertain.

tefon ( , he Tepho): In 1 Macc 9:50, a city of Judea fortified by Bacchides, probably the Beth-tappuah of Jos 15:53, near Hebron. Josephus (Ant., XII, i, 3) calls it Tochoa.
