Wertheimer, Max

(1880) One of the originators — along with Koffka and Khler — of Gestalt psychology. The three began their association at Frankfort about 1912 and later Wertheimer and Khler worked together at the University of Berlin. Wertheimer was led to the basic conception of Gestalt in the course of his investigations of apparent movement which seemed to indicate that the perception of movement is an integral experience and not the interpretative combination of static sensations. “Experimental studien ber das Sehen von Bewegungen, Zeitschrift fr Psychologie, 1912, Vol. 61, pp. 161-265. — L.W.
