A place from which some of the Jewish captives returned with Zerubbabel to Judaea: these “could not show their father’s house, nor their seed (pedigree) whether they were of Israel” (Ezr 2:59). ADDON, or AALAR.

ADDAN (1Es 5:36).Some of the inhabitants of this place returned with Zerubbabel, but were unable to prove their true Isr. descent by showing to what clan or family they belonged (Ezr 2:59). The name does not appear in the later lists in Ezr 10:1-44, Neh 10:1-39. In Neh 7:61 it appears as Addon.

adan (, ‘addan; in Neh , ‘addon; connected in some way with the name of the god Addu): A name mentioned in the list of the returning exiles (Ezr 2:59, duplicated in Neh 7:61). It is one of several names of Babylonian localities from which came men who were unable to declare their genealogy as Israelites.
