Adiel

(Heb. Adiel, , ornament of God), the name of three men.

1. (Sept. v. r. .) The father of Azmaveth, which latter was treasurer under David and Solomon (1Ch 27:25). B.C. ante 1014.

2. (Sept. v. r. .) One of the family heads of the tribe of Simeon, who seem to have dispossessed the aborigines of Gedor (1Ch 4:36), B.C. cir. 711.

3. (Sept. .) A priest, son of Jahzerah and father of Maasiai, which last was one of those most active in reconstructing the Temple after the captivity (1Ch 9:12). B.C. ante 536.

(1) One of the princes of the tribe of Simeon, who, in the days of Hezekiah, smote the aborigines of Gedor and captured the valley (1Ch 4:36).

(2) Father of Maasai, one of the priests who dwelt in Jerusalem after the return from the Exile (1Ch 9:12).

(3) Father of Azmaveth who was over David’s treasures (1Ch 27:25).

Adiel

A’di-el. (ornament of God).

1. A prince of the tribe of Simeon, descended from the prosperous family of Shimei. 1Ch 4:36. He took part in the murderous raid made by his tribe upon the peaceable Hamite shepherds of the valley of Gedor in the reign of Hezekiah. (B.C. about 711).

2. A priest, ancestor of Maasiai. 1Ch 9:12.

3. Ancestor of Azmaveth, David’s treasurer. 1Ch 27:25. (B.C. 1050).
