Reigned from 21 October 1187 to 17 December 1187. Born c.1100 in Benevento, Italy as Alberto di Morra; died at Pisa, Italy . He was a Premonstratensian , cardinal -priest, and chancellor , in which capacity he was sent to England to investigate the murder of Saint Thomas a Becket. Elected in the midst of war with the Saracens and the capture of Jerusalem , he at once opened negotiations for a reconciliation with Barbarossa , with the purpose of organizing a Crusade . Before this could be accomplished, he died , while attempting to mediate between Pisa and Genoa .
