In Kant’s Crit. of pure Reason Antizipationen der Wahrnehmung) the second of two synthetic principles of the understanding (the other being “Axioms of Intuition”) by which the mind is able to determine something a priori in regard to what is in itself empirical. While the mind cannot anticipate the specific qualities which are to be experienced, we can, nevertheless, Kant holds, predetermine or anticipate any sense experience that “in all appearances the real, which is an object of sensation, has intensive magnitude or degree.” — O.F.K.
