Argyll and the Isles, Scotland, diocese of
Comprises Argyll and part of Inverness counties, islands of Bute and Arran, and the Hebrides; suffragan of Saint Andrews and Edinburgh. The dioceses of Argyll, founded about 1200, and the Isles, traditionally established by Saint Patrick who consecrated the first bishop , were united in 1878 under Angus Macdonald (1878 -1892 ).
