Asuppim
(Hebrews Asuppim’, , – collections; Sept. v. r. ), a part of the Temple, to which two of the Levites of the family of Obed- edom were assigned as guards (1Ch 26:15; 1Ch 26:17). They were apparently the two northernmost gates in the western outer wall of the Temple, the space between them being inclosed for store-chambers, by the name of the house of Asuppim (see Strong’s Harmony and Exposition of the Gospels, Appendix 2, p. 30). In the reference to the same building, as restored after the captivity (Neh 12:25), the term is falsely rendered thresholds ( , in the store-houses of the gates, Sept. ). SEE TEMPLE.

(“gathering”.) Margin 1Ch 26:15; 1Ch 26:17. Not a proper name. From asaph, to “gather.” The house of stores, where were kept the grain, wine, and other offerings for the sustenance of the priests. Near the S. door of the temple in the outer court; it had. two entrances, for 1Ch 26:19 states that two guard stations were assigned to it. In Neh 12:25 the same Hebrew is translated “thresholds,” margin “treasuries,” “assemblies.”

In 1Ch 26:15; 1Ch 26:17 the Hebrew word is given untranslated; but the same occurs in Neh 12:25, where it is translated ‘thresholds,’ and in the margin ‘treasuries.’ It probably refers to the apartments used as storehouses in the outer temple.

Asup’pim. 1Ch 26:15; 1Ch 26:17. Literally, house of the gatherings. Some understand it as the proper name of chambers on the south of the Temple; others, of certain store-rooms; or of the council chambers in the outer court of the Temple in which the elders held their celebrations.
