Confessor (died 872 ), Bishop of Naples ; born Naples , Italy ; died Veroli, Italy . He restored the sacred edifices, including the church of Saint Januarius, destroyed by the Saracens, founded a hospice, and instituted a service for the ransom of captive Christians . Because he resisted simoniacal practises, he was imprisoned by his nephew Sergius, Duke of Naples . The clergy and people of Naples forced his release. Feast , 15 July .
